Welcome to Beech Class!  Our topic this term is ‘Heroes’.

English
In English, your child will continue to develop their writing skills through the Clever Writer approach.  We employ various techniques to enhance creativity, grammar, and vocabulary, enabling students to become confident and eloquent writers. In Year 2, we recognize the importance of understanding and applying spelling rules and we encourage children to learn their home spellings diligently.

Reading and Spellings

Reading books will be sent home and changed when needed. In year 2 we encourage children to change their book when they are ready for a new one during Guided Reading sessions so there are no set book change days. Please note in their reading records when they have read at home.
In Year 2, we recognise the importance of understanding and applying spelling rules and we encourage children to learn their home spellings diligently.  We will have a spelling quiz and new spelling lists will be given out on Fridays.

Maths
We aim to provide a solid foundation in mathematics, with a specific focus on multiplication and division this term. We ensure that students grasp key concepts and develop strong problem-solving skills. Through interactive lessons and practical examples, we aim to make learning maths enjoyable and accessible to all children in Beech Class.

History

One of our chosen heroes is Florence Nightingale, a pioneering nurse who made a remarkable impact on the field of healthcare. We explore her inspiring journey, her contributions to modern nursing, and how her work continues to influence healthcare practices today. In comparison we will also be studying the life of Mary Seacole. By studying these remarkable individuals, we hope to develop values of compassion, determination, and resilience in our students.

Science

This Spring term in Science we will cover animals, including humans. We believe it's essential for children to understand the wonders of the animal kingdom and the intricate connections between animals and humans. We explore different animal habitats, their unique adaptations and their life cycles and behaviours. Our aim is to foster a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the incredible diversity of life on our planet.

We strive to create a warm and nurturing atmosphere where your child can thrive, grow, and discover their full potential both academically and personally.

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursday. Please remember to wear school PE kits on these days.
