Maple Class

Welcome to Maple Class! Your teacher is Mrs Oates.

Teaching Assistants are Mrs Polak, Mrs Hill, Mrs Rajan and Miss Hadfield.

Welcome to Maple Class and to the Summer term! Our class is all about learning and exploring various topics. Our topic this term is ‘Adventures in the Southern Hemisphere’.

In English, your child will continue to develop their writing skills through the Clever Writer approach.  We continue to employ various techniques to enhance creativity, grammar, and vocabulary, enabling students to become confident and eloquent writers. In Year 2, we recognise the importance of understanding and applying spelling rules and we encourage children to learn their home spellings diligently.
This term we will be exploring stories from Southern Africa to widen their awareness of different cultures.

We aim to provide a solid foundation in mathematics, with a specific focus this term on Fractions, Time, Statistics and Position and Direction. We will continue to practise their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and mental maths in all four operations. We continue to ensure that students grasp key concepts and develop problem-solving skills. Through interactive lessons and practical examples, we aim to make learning maths enjoyable and accessible to all children in Maple Class.

This Summer term in Science we will be learning about ‘Living things and their habitats’ followed by ‘Plants’. We will explore different animal habitats, their unique adaptations and their life cycles and behaviours. Our aim is to foster a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the incredible diversity of life on our planet. We will begin our Science topic with a trip to West Midlands Safari Park.

This also feeds into our Geography topic where we learn about the hemispheres, continents and oceans. We are particularly looking at South Africa as we have a resident ‘expert’ with a link school!

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursday. Please remember to wear school PE kits on these days.

We have enjoyed being a part of the children’s learning journey so far this year and we look forward to an action packed final term!
