What does RE and Worship look like at St. Andrew's?
Statement of Intent
Religious Education for children provokes challenging questions about the meaning and purpose of life. RE enables pupils to build their sense of identity and belonging; helping them to flourish within their communities and ultimately, as citizens in a diverse society. It fosters within children a respect for others, including people with a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. From an early age, through developing a mutual respect and awareness for the beliefs of others, our aim is to challenge prejudice and facilitate understanding.
As a voluntary-controlled Church of England School, we follow the Shropshire Agreed Syllabus for RE (2021-2026). As stated in the Education Act, 1996, our local RE curriculum reflects ‘the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, while taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principle religions represented in Great Britain’.
In EYFS, RE sits within the areas of Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Understanding the World. This framework enables children to develop a positive sense of themselves and others, and to learn how to form meaningful and respectful relationships.
Our aim in KS1 and KS2 is to deliver a RE curriculum which enables learners to:
- Make sense of a range of religious and non-religious beliefs
- Understand the impact and significance of religious and non-religious beliefs
- Make connections between religious and non-religious beliefs, concepts, practices and ideas studied.
